Understanding the client's desire for increased familial interaction, Yi-Rong Wen embarked on a renovation journey that reimagines the concept of home. The project's cornerstone lies in the dissolution of traditional spatial divisions, allowing for a seamless flow between living areas. This strategic design move not only amplifies the visual expansiveness of the interior but also strengthens the bonds between family members by creating a spacious social hub.
Yi-Rong Wen's innovative approach is evident in the custom suspended ironwork that weaves together the living and dining areas. This open lattice structure allows for visual permeability while introducing distinctive irregular lines that add a touch of uniqueness. The flooring further demarcates the thematic zones through contrasting hues, subtly defining each space without erecting barriers. In a bold departure from convention, the study room is re-envisioned as a relaxed social hall, inviting family members to gather and engage in shared activities.
The design's realization employs a palette of materials including iron, stone plastic composite flooring, and eco-friendly finishes. A dichotomy of dark and light tones delineates the social from the private realms, with the former embracing stylish dark accents for a sophisticated ambiance. Notably, the suspended iron laminate, integrated during the early construction phase, achieves a floating effect that is both aesthetically pleasing and structurally sound.
Spanning 495.8 square meters and comprising 4 plus 1 rooms, the design's technical specifications reveal a thoughtful consideration of space and light. The transformation of a partitioned kitchen area into a versatile study room introduces natural illumination and flexibility, while sliding glass doors ensure parental oversight without compromising the children's sense of independence.
Post-renovation feedback from the clients confirms the success of Yi-Rong Wen's vision. The clear separation of social and private areas has resulted in a living space that is both intimate and inviting. The reimagined study room, in particular, has become a focal point for connection, allowing for simultaneous yet separate gatherings of adults and children.
Challenges such as the renovation of a decade-old apartment and the presence of low, large beams were adeptly navigated through meticulous foundational work and clever design tactics. The use of open laminates and dark colors effectively counters the potential visual constriction of the space, infusing it with a textured elegance.
The entrance sets the stage for the home's artistic flair, where marble, wood veneer, iron, and lighting converge to create a gallery-esque ambiance. Daylight floods through floor-to-ceiling windows, softened by gauze curtains, while mood lighting ensures nocturnal coziness. The chosen dark tones imbue the space with tranquility, reflecting the client's personality and rounding out a design that is as functional as it is expressive.
Yi-Rong Wen's Reconstruct Boundary project, a testament to the harmonious blend of art and architecture, has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design category for 2024. This accolade celebrates designs that demonstrate exceptional creativity and practicality, contributing to the enhancement of life and the betterment of society.
